Anesco installs Europe’s largest optimised solar farm using Trinasmart technology

Pen-y-cae arrays 3_v1 for webThe largest optimised solar farm in Europe has been installed by Anesco using Trinasmart photovoltaic modules supplied by Trina Solar.

Situated in Pen Y Cae, near Powys, South Wales, the 6.9MW array was commissioned in March 2015 and is now generating electricity to the grid.

The installation incorporates patented Trinasmart technology, a complete solution which includes power optimisation to increase system performance by up to 20 per cent together with monitoring built into the module junction box.

Unlike other modules, Trinasmart allows monitoring and control of the PV array at the module level rather than at inverter level. A web based platform means that system performance can also be monitored and controlled in real time with a smart mobile device or PC.

The system also improves the safety of the PV system: in cases of electrical failure affected modules are shut down automatically. Moreover, in the case of a fire emergency, the modules can be totally deactivated with a single click to eliminate high voltages and secure the safety of the emergency services.

Adrian Pike CEO of Anesco, the UK’s leading energy efficiency solutions company, said: “Once again Anesco is leading the way in technological advances. This installation – on this scale – is an important milestone and underlines our commitment to pushing the boundaries of solar energy production.

“Our collaboration with Trina Solar demonstrates what can be achieved when likeminded organisations on a global scale work collaboratively to solve and create real opportunities within the electricity market.”

Anesco has forged strong relationships with manufacturers across the globe, including Europe, the US and Asia, working with teams to see how products and new innovations can best be developed and deployed for the UK market.

Ben Hill, president for Europe and Africa at Trina Solar, said: “Trina Solar has built its business on providing high-quality, innovative products and value-add services such as Trinasmart to the market, and on maintaining a position as a prudent and reliable partner.

“As the market leader in the UK, it is hugely satisfying to be working alongside an organisation with the reputation of Anesco to deliver the largest optimised solar farm in Europe. It is this kind of innovation which keeps both our organisations ahead of the game which is vital in the fast changing solar PV sector.”

Anesco continues to grow its battery storage capabilities

The UK’s leading energy efficiency solutions company Anesco, is reporting that following the successful performance of the first commercial scale battery unit to be installed in the UK, a second unit is due to arrive from China in early April.

Anesco’s team are currently in China and have placed a further order for a 1MW scale unit, which will be one of the largest in the UK.

“We have been really impressed by the unit’s performance,” reported Adrian Pike, CEO Anesco, who undertook the initial project on an existing solar farm near Bournemouth. The collaboration itself was a ground breaking initiative for the UK energy efficiency market.

Mr Pike added: “What we have been able demonstrate is how solar power can be a key part of the generation mix and a sustainable way to tailor generation capacity to consumer needs. The unit’s excellent performance means that we will be placing more orders with our Chinese partner BYD Company Ltd, the world’s leading manufacturer of rechargeable batteries.”

The three year collaboration with BYD has also led to a step change in the UK domestic market with the recent installation of the most advanced residential energy storage units currently on the market.

BYD is supplying Anesco with 3kWp /10kWh units, which are G83 certified to make sure they are grid compliant. Like their commercial counterparts, the units are capable of capturing the electricity exported to the grid and saving it for home use when solar PV is not generating.

“Energy storage technology makes sure that solar power output is steady and smooth and BYD is thrilled that we will be supplying Anesco with more batteries following the success of the initiative for the commercial market,” said Tom Zhao, general manager of BYD’s solar division. “More than anything it vindicates the decision to appoint BYD as the partner of choice for the UK market as our products have yet again demonstrated their reliability, resilience and excellent quality.”
